About The Artist
 Rahes Gallery was opened in January 2007 by Michael Flijanis. We believe it is the first such venue in Ikaria, situated at the entry to the village square of Agios Dimitrios, in the breathtakingly beautiful province of Rahes. Michael is an artist who was born in Ikaria, although he studied, lived and worked in England for thirty years before returning home last year.
Michael uses various media in his visual work, which includes two-dimensional images, sculpture and multimedia pieces (involving combination of imagery and sound). He would briefly describe his work as the product of a procedure resembling what Freud described as 'dream-work'', a procedure that strives to access unconscious imagery and turn it to a manifest vista by means of condensation and dramatisation.
The gallery opened with an exhibition of collages and digital images created by Michael in England. These represent a fraction of a body of work which is also periodically shown in venues other than Rahes Gallery. Although the Gallery ordinarily houses his work, his range of activity extends beyond that.
The aim of the gallery is also to provide a venue for exhibiting work by other artists too. In fact, Michael and Karen (his wife who manages the gallery) are in negotiation with two artists from Athens who express interest in showing their work in Rahes this year.
The images shown here are available in digital print on canvas or on paper and, in most instances, can be produced in different sizes and can be sent by mail order. Most images are published in a limited edition of 20 copies per image. For digitally produced images available in a limited edition, Rahes Gallery offers a guarantee that once an item is purchased from our premises, in the advent of it being damaged, we will reprint it at only the cost of its reproduction.
