Sailing Around Ikaria & Fournoi Islands

The Aegean Sea around Ikaria is a sailing paradise and the short distance between Ikaria and its island neighbor, Fourni Islands, makes Ikaria's south coast an ideal base for day sailing trips. Experience a fun filled day of adventure and sailing to Fourni's beautiful beaches and mysterious hidden coves.

The Fourni Islands, also known as the "Pirate Islands", used to be a haven for pirate ships! Its also the place with the most sunken shipwrecks anywhere in the world! Fourni is a well known fishermen's island and famous for its fresh and affordable seafood and lobster.

The sailing trip features snorkeling, kayaking and swimming at a choice of different coves and beaches and the option to have lunch at a seaside taverna or onboard. Departures are from either Agios Kirikos new yacht marina or Faros Beach, and multi-day bareboat or crewed charters are also available for those wishing to visit other Greek Islands as a compliment to their stay in Ikaria.

Departing from Ikaria we setoff bearing east for a pleasant 10nm morning sail and after 1.5 hrs we arrive at Keramidou Beach which is located in a picturesque and sheltered bay. We spend the afternoon swimming, snorkelling, kayaking and relaxing at the beach. Enjoy a delicious lunch at the local family owned seafood taverna, take a short walk up to the beautiful church of St. Demetrios perched high above the island and admire the amazing panoramic views or explore the nearby port town of Thymaina.

Guests are welcome to assist in sailing or just relax and enjoy. Return to Agios Kirikos marina or Faros Beach is in the late afternoon. Suitable for all ages.

On trips that depart from Faros, guests depart from the beach where Captain Kostas will be waiting to transport you via private dinghy the short distance out to your anchored sailing yacht.

Information for Visiting Charter Yachts & Catamarans

Ikaria has two main harbors where visiting charter yachts and catamarans can berth securely. Evdilos in the north and Agios Kirikos in the south.

A new yacht marina has just been completed just to the north of Agios Kirikos port. Currently the new marina is offering limited services and boats are not being charged. Water is available on the piers, but not electricity. Fuel delivery can be arranged with local providers. Yacht repairs are not yet available. Banks, restaurants, cafes, shopping, self-service coin laundry and transportation are located nearby within walking distance. There is also a small natural thermal pool located within the marina offering guests a natural spa therapy. Boats tie up alongside the piers, no mooring lines are available and anchoring is not recommended.

Visiting bareboat yachts and catamarans can also anchor in the bay and beach area of Faros which is at the north-east end of the island near the airport. Shelter from the prevailing Greek Islands NE winds is good and the bottom is sand with good holding. Seaside tavernas and cafes are located on the beach and swimming is pleasant as there are rarely waves in the bay in summer. A small pier is located in the center of the beach where tenders from sail boats may dock.
